Italy AI Law (Law 132/2025)

Italy's national AI law, read in line with the EU AI Act. It names AgID and the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) as national AI authorities, requires parental consent for children under 14 to use AI, sets disclosure duties for employers and professionals, creates a crime of harmful AI deepfake distribution (1-5 years) and delegates further rules to the Government.

What this means for you

If you build AI

  • AgID and ACN are Italy's national AI authorities; ACN handles supervision, inspections and sanctions.
  • The law is applied in line with the EU AI Act; it adds Italian rules rather than replacing the EU framework.

  • Employers must inform workers when AI is used, in the cases and ways set by law.
  • Professionals may use AI only for support tasks and must tell clients, in clear language, which AI systems they use.

  • Spreading AI-faked images, video or voices of a person without consent, causing them harm, is a crime punishable by 1 to 5 years in prison.
