Verge: experts say Claude's scorpion toxin binders are far from a medicine

The Verge reports Citrini said none of the 17 passing binders bound more than one toxin, and none has been tested for neutralizing it. Anthropic covered just under $50,000 in compute; lab tests cost about $150,000.

Why it matters: Binding is the easy part, experts told The Verge; turning hits into safe drugs is the hard step. Weigh AI drug-discovery claims with that gap in mind.

Google Cloud: biotech agents should automate reversible steps and gate irreversible ones

In a reference design for drug discovery, Google Cloud splits a Gemini orchestrator from GPU simulation services and passes bulky structural data by reference. Advancing a compound to wet-lab synthesis requires human sign-off.

Why it matters: Resolving chemical synonyms or pulling structure files can run on their own, Google says, so researchers approve only the steps that are hard to undo.
