OpenAI's dots: an always-on assistant that proposes work and often asks permission

Alexander Embiricos told TechCrunch dots runs proactive research on a cadence and proposes ways to help. It needs the Pro tier, from $100 a month. In TechCrunch's testing it flagged conflicts, not always in time.

Why it matters: It shows where one lab draws the line between acting and asking. TechCrunch says its controls aren't granular and it refuses read-only access to cloud drives.

Preprint: memory tools barely help agents learn how users want to be helped

MemPABench tests when agents should clarify, confirm or act, over 99 sessions across four months. The authors report retrieval memory (Mem0, MemOS, RAG) did not beat no memory; file-based memory overapplied preferences.

Why it matters: If your assistant keeps re-asking questions users already answered, current memory tools may not fix it, this preprint suggests.
